2020.08.13 01:30 KaneCheshire Trying to create a Boosted remote app

Hey all,
Some of you may know I make the Ride app, and while procrastinating about other things I should really be doing I revisited an idea I had a while ago to try and create an app that acts as a Boosted remote, so you have a backup if your remote breaks or whatever (also just for fun).
I got so, so close to matching how the remote advertises itself in pairing and non-pairing mode, but sadly after an entire day of trying I couldn't get the board to recognise the phone as a remote so still can't get past the pairing stage.
iOS is a huge no-go because you can't alter the "manufacturing specific data" like you can on Android, but unfortunately even on Android there are a couple of bytes of information that you can't control so the advertising packet is still ever so slightly different (literally just two bytes different out of 62 bytes, so close!).
So I figured I didn't want my entire day of investigations to go to waste. I learnt a lot about how the remote advertises itself, and just generally how advertising data works in Bluetooth LE. So I wrote it all down in a gist on GitHub, GitHub repo and I hope that it might mean that as a community we can figure out the last bit. Maybe we need some custom hardware where we have full control over the Bluetooth advertisements, it would be cool either way.
I know that we can observe the throttle values with Bluetooth LE because I can create a Mac app really easily to hook into that data. The blocker is creating an app that the board sees as a real Boosted remote.
I know the gist isn't the most readable so happy to put into a better format like markdown or on Medium if necessary some day. I can also tidy up my experimental Android app and post the code on GitHub.
If you're going to give this a try yourself, this page is also good for a quick primer on the different Bluetooth services and characteristics that make up the remote.
Peace!
EDIT: I've tidied up my Android code for this and published in a public repo on GitHub, and also added the reverse engineering info there which is much easier to digest than the original gist.

2020.07.30 21:48 OneWhoRemembers [Part 4] Blood Music and the Guild of Surgeons

[Part 1] can be found here, the previous entry here .
- - -
At midnight I crept outside with the stolen bolt cutters and found the Tolstoy Wing. It hulked in the darkness black-on-black, rising into and then falling from the starlit sky like the hide of some huge slumbering mammal. I picked a spot halfway up that looked like a logical place to put a window and started to climb. It was hard work (especially with no light) to get a grip in the ivy and pull my body upwards, but slowly, surely, I managed to reach my chosen area and entwine my legs steadily enough that I could use both hands without the fear of falling.
The vines and other climbing plants were super thick, almost too thick to get the jaws of the bolt cutter around, and it took a lot of heaving and grunting to cut through that pale green supple flesh. Eventually I could feel stonework and hesitantly used my phone light to look for the window. I could make out the edge of a faded wooden frame beneath the vines to my right, and so with a deep sigh I shuffled over and started cutting again.
The next time I thumbed on my phone light a dim and dusty room was illuminated. I hung the bolt cutters on a loop of ivy and wedged the point of my penknife into the jamb. I could see a rusted latch holding the window shut from the other side, and with a little jiggling I could scarcely believe my luck: the thing popped right open. A musty smell of sweetened decay and formaldehyde billowed into my face.
I lowered myself into the room as quietly as I could and began snooping around. It was a kitchen/dining space with a large oven, chest freezer, table and chairs, cupboards etc; normal in function if a little off architecturally. I pushed open a squeaking wooden door and found myself in a long twisted corridor that seemed to run the full length of the wing. To my far left was a heavy wrought iron entryway that no doubt led into the hotel. Both walls were lined with numbered wooden doors. To my far right the corridor opened up to reveal the lab with its great wooden table, exactly as described in the groundskeeper's story and almost exactly how I had pictured it in my mind too.
I wandered around the lab for a time peering into jars of weird pickled objects. There were animal parts, organs and viscera suspended bonewhite in thick yellowish fluid. There were also plant parts, beautifully splayed open to reveal their delicate inner workings. Some of the jars were labled in a neat classical scrawl, written shorthand using characters I didn't even recognise least of all understand.
I searched in the cupboards and drawers for anything of interest, and though I found plenty of unusual tools and devices I saw none of the clockwork wooden devices as described by the groundskeeper.
Disheartened and a little frustrated at my lack of knowledge and therefore lack of context for much of what I had discovered, I decided to head for room 183. On my way out of the lab I noticed a wooden carving set into the thick frame around the doorway, and was surprised to see it was in English. It read: “The Guild of Surgeons - For the twin to survive, Both souls must thrive.”
I had no idea what such a thing could mean exactly, though I immediately picked up on the connection to the twin-soul insignia. What did it have to do with surgery of all things?
The door was unlocked, and inside I found a small bedroom. It was windowless and bare to the point of ascetic. There was a narrow bed, an empty wardrobe and chest of drawers, a bedside table, and that was it. This was where the crazy old man had told me to come, but why? There was nothing here. I backed out into the corridor and tried the other doors. All were locked tight.
I returned to the old man's room and began looking around, searching for secrets. The historian had told me that the old man was an ex-member (apparently of this 'Guild of Surgeons'), who had left the organistation sometime in the 1980's. They had been hunting him ever since; so for as long as 30-35 years. If he was a runaway or an escapee or an apostate, perhaps he had betrayed or undermined them somehow. This room may have been used by other members in that 30+ years, so anything he left behind would need to be well-hidden.
Thinking back on the search of my uncle's home I checked for loose floorboards and cavities in the walls. I checked for false bottoms in all the drawers and the back of the wardrobe. I peered into every crevice and seam, in the bed too. Eventually I found what I was looking for behind the wardrobe, a wedge of skirting board with a tiny arrow scratched into it. I used my penknife to lever it loose and revealed a section of stonework. One of the stones had been chiselled out to leave a deep hollow from which I pulled a cigar box wrapped in a grubby grey rag.
Inside the box were 4 objects. The first was square wooden record identical to the one I had at home, and I suspected it also contained the same 3 'divine' messages too. The second object was a paperback book, not a journal or some kind of occult bible like I was hoping for but an early edition of a novel; 'Blood Music' by Greg Bear. I took a quick look at the publication notes and found it was first printed in 1985, around the time the old man supposedly fled this place. A quick flick through the pages revealed detailed annotations I resolved to pour through later. The third object was just a wedge of parchment-like paper on which a map had been carefully drawn with ink and quill. I was looking at a forest of deciduous trees dotted with clearings and a few winding trails. A small clearing in the thickest part of the forest was marked with a thick, black 'X'.
The fourth object was certainly the strangest and most disturbing of all. It was a beautifully detailed wooden hand haphazardly sawn off at the wrist, presumably from a connecting arm. The fingers and thumb were spread calmly in a relaxed resting gesture. It was heavy as stone.
I shoved everything back into the cigar box and wedged it under my arm. I turned to leave and fell scrabbling to the wooden floor when I saw a hulking figure standing in the hallway beyond the open door. The white glare of my phone light fell across ruffling plant fronds that twitched and groped at the surrounding doorframe.
It was one of the mimicweed figures, more than 2 meters of astronaut-proportioned ghillie suit. Its arms were thick as an elephant's, and between its tree trunk legs a shrivelled stump hung low like a gnarled phallus.
A memory flashed through my mind; Christmas 1991 when my father bought a real tree for the first time. It had been too large, far too large, but he wouldn't have it. My sisters and my mother and I had sat giggling in the living room as he tried to shove it through the door. Watching the mimicweed drag itself through the too-small aperture produced the very same dry dragging sound.
I didn't know what to do. I was trapped in a tiny room with my only exit blocked. I had no weapons save for the couple of inches of blade in my penknife, nothing to protect myself, and nobody even knew where I was. I thought about screaming; someone would surely hear me in the hotel and come running. No, it would take too long, and in any case shock had locked my voice into little more than a coarse gurgle.
Soon the thing was fully in the room with me and seemed to fill half of it. It moved with slow jerking movements like a wind-up toy or a chameleon, and as it neared it raised those long thick arms to envelop me. The arms ended not in hands and fingers but blunt fists of tightly entwined thorns and nubs of hard wood.
I remembered the coin in my pocket, and how the groundskeeper described his own as though it were quite literally a protective talisman.
The mimicweed was almost upon me. I could smell the dust gathered in its dry branches. In the centre of that great shaggy face I thought I made out a single dull eye gazing back at me. It paused inches away from my face when it 'saw' the tiny silver disk glinting between my fingers.
It recoiled, staggering almost comically until it slumped hard against the wardrobe.
I didn't waste any time.
I slammed the door shut behind me, sprinted into the kitchen, heaved myself out of the window and dropped noiselessly to the lawn. I stashed the cigar box in the back of my sister's van and returned to my room where I quickly gathered my things. Ten minutes later I was on the road vowing never to return.
I was deeply troubled by my first encounter with what even now I can only describe as an 'unnatural' entity, and I spent several long weeks trying to forget about it and return to life as normal.
There was unfortunately no longer any such thing as 'normal', not for me anyway.
I would keep seeing them, big black cars parked up wherever I went. They were always just in sight; far enough away to make a quick escape, close enough that I always spotted them. I'm sure that a few times I was wrong in my assumptions but my paranoia was not unfounded. One time I went for a quiet pint with some friends and noticed a thin, hawkish man in an old style suit and hooded overcoat staring at me from across the room. Emboldened with drink I bullied over to confront him and he was out the door like a shot. I followed him outside in time to witness yet another black car screeching away.
It was getting a little too much.
I was fraught in my day-to-day life, withdrawing more and more away from social activities. Whenever I did go out I made sure to stick to public places, often carrying multiple hats and jackets that I could switch between in a perhaps naïve attempt to throw off any pursuers.
Despite living like this, harrassed by my uncle's killers for so long it was somebody else who pulled me back to the 'case'. The historian Mrs. Taggart had sent me a letter asking how my trip to see her old colleague had been, and once again asking (almost begging) to loan her my uncle's record. Now that I had two I thought 'why not?' and the next day posted my uncle's copy to her along with a letter of my own. I didn't mention anything about the men harrassing her friend or myself, only that he had successfully steered my investigation in the right direction.
That evening I retrieved the cigar box from where I had hidden it in the base of the washing machine.
I locked myself in the study and sat behind the desk. There was an aluminium baseball bat hidden in the well at my feet and a 7-inch bowie knife in the drawer, just in case. I had weapons in every room now it seemed. I would find myself thinking hard and often about the historian's revolver and how I should have kept it.
I examined the wooden hand first of all, initially with a magnifying glass and then a pair of antique jeweller's glasses I keep on the mantlepiece. It was really very heavy, and very intricate too right down to the details of the fingernails and the lines of the palm. In contrast to its realism and macabre beauty, the hand was not so smooth and streamlined as my own. It was quite bony and swollen around the joints, and there was a strange leathery withered quality to it that reminded me of pictures I had seen of shunken heads, mummies and bog people.
I returned it to the box and withdrew the map.
The paper itself was thicker than regular grades, marbled grey and pale brown and though it was rough to the touch there was a faint waxy texture too. It had been folded in four, and had nothing written on either side save for the mysterious forest map. There were no discerning landmarks from which I could identify this location. More context was needed, and so I folded it back up and returned it to the box.
Using headphones as to avoid alerting any outside listeners, I took a few minutes to confirm that the wooden record was a copy of my uncle's before returning it to the box. I had no desire to listen all the way through a second time. Even at this stage I had yet to try listening to the 3rd divine message again.
I picked up the novel, 'Blood Music' by Greg Bear. The spine was heavily cracked from overreading but it was otherwise in fairly good condition. The cover was black with the title emblazoned in scarlet capitals above a curious and disturbing picture. It was a cartoonish figure with a look upon his face that I could only interpret as detached horror. His torso was flayed open and inside were numerous gnarled ears and toothy mouths elongated into Cheshire grins.
On the desk beside the cigar box was an unopened Amazon parcel which had arrived that morning. It was a modern copy of the same novel, the 2001 SF Masterworks edition. This version was presented in less unsettling manner, the cover instead depicting a woman making her way through a bizarre alien city.
Meaning to preserve the annotated version I read my fresh copy cover to cover 3 times over the space of the next week. Frankly, I really enjoyed it. It was a great story with some interesting themes and ideas that I will briefly summarise:
The tale is about a scientist who seeks to build biological supercomputers using his own lymphocytes. His experimentations go well despite kickback from his employers, and once they realise the extent of his secret works order him to destroy it all. Instead, as one might expect, he injects the unfinished cell clusters (known as noocytes) into his own body where he hopes to smuggle them out of the lab and continue his research elsewhere. The noocytes continue to develop and evolve inside his body, soon becoming self-aware and developing both consciousness and intelligence. Each individual cluster of 10-30 cells eventually has the same 'brain' capacity as an entire adult human. They fix the scientist's ailments and cure his longterm health problems, but the problem is they never stop. His body begins to warp and deform under the noocyte's 'improvements'. They keep reinventing and rebuilding, spreading out of the scientist into everything from other people and animals to plants, cities and oceans, the ground we walk on, the air we breathe. Everything.
The 'blood music' itself is described as the noocytes in a person's bloodstream 'singing' to their host.
It may seem like a horror story at this point but the ending was surprisingly uplifting (and also mindbending). The noocytes absorb much of the world include most of its people, but they don't die rather they are reborn inside (Bear's interpretation of) the 'noosphere'.
Eventually the noocyte civilisation numbering in their trillions of trillions must leave our plane of reality for new frontiers, not for ambitious exploration but because their mere presence is literally breaking reality.
The reason for this is based on the 'strong anthropic principle' which is defined as thus: a philosphical premise that any data collected about the universe around us is by default filtered by the fact that in order for us to observe it at all, the universe itself must have always been compatible with the eventual emergence of the sapient, conscious life that observes it.
In the context of 'Blood Music' the theme goes deeper, examining an interesting quirk of quantum physics that even now I struggle to follow least of all understand. Essentially, some particles react to being observed, either by ceasing their normal function or switching to another. In 'Blood Music' the very presence of so many individuals (the trillions of noocytes) observing the universe around them becomes a deadly threat to it, with these reactive particles threatening to destabilise the fundaments of physics itself.
After completing my third read-through I considered myself familiar enough with the story to try and decipher some of the annotations in the 1985 copy.
The first thing I noticed was how concentrated they were towards the end of the novel where the noocyte/absorbed-human civilisation begins to confront its violations of the strong anthropic principle. Most of the notes were written in the same unreadable shorthand as those scribbled on jars in the Tolstoy Wing's lab. However some were in English, written so small I had to use the jeweller's glasses to make out the letters.
One of them read: second soul = noocytes?
He couldn't possibly believe the noocytes were real could he? They were 'built' even in the context of the novel.
Another simply read: U.E.E! and was aggressively underlined despite its tiny size.
A third most interestingly said: Northern network, 248 square km. Reactive links recorded across entire N.E. zone.
It took me a long time to scour every page but a week or so later I had a list of phrases and acronyms 34 items long. Every last one of them was interesting in one way or another. None of them made any real sense.
I hid the cigar box and its contents (including the list of annotations and my own copy of 'Blood Music') in the base of the washing machine and returned to my life as normal. I continued to identify dark-clad men watching me from doorways and black cars parked up just within sight, but with time it was becoming less and less frequent.
One morning I received a letter marked with Mrs. Taggart's return address. Keen to read her thoughts on the divine messages I tore it open, however it wasn't from Mrs. Taggart but her wife who introduced herself as Melinda. She had disturbing news: Mrs. Taggart (or Beryl as Melinda of course referred to her) had disappeared one night over a week ago.
Though my thoughts immediately jumped to the mysterious men and their black cars Melinda painted a very different picture:
'We live in a nice house in an otherwise fairly poor neighbourhood,' she wrote. 'We've been targeted by burglars before and so we have three security cameras; one at the backdoor, one at the front, and another pointing into the house that can see the open living room/kitchen. The outdoor cameras can see all approaches to the property and during the timeframe Beryl went missing nobody including her can be seen leaving or entering. I write to you because my Beryl was listening to your strange record the night she vanished. Please watch the footage and call me if you know anything that could help me find her; the police cannot make heads or tails of it.'
At the bottom of the letter was a phone number and a long Youtube link painstakingly written out character-by-character.
I opened up my laptop, typed in the web address and was lead to an unlisted 8 minute video with no views or likes that showed a wide open living space in grainy monochrome. To the left was a sunken lounge complete with sofas, chairs, a circular coffee table and several bookcases. The spaces at the edges of the room were lined with tall plants and glass cases of curios. To the right of the space was a beautiful modern kitchen complete with an oval island and breakfast bar.
I had never met Beryl Taggart in the flesh, but watched as a slim middle-aged woman with long grey hair entered the shot with a brown envelope in her hands. I recognised it as the record I had sent and in one frame was even even able to make out my own handwriting. She eagerly tore it open and began carefully examining it and taking photographs. The timestamp encoded into the footage skipped ahead a few minutes as she finally made her way to a record player in the corner.
She sat in a big armchair and listened. Though there was no audio to accompany the visual I knew the first two tracks were roughly 7 minutes long apiece, and combined with the position of the needle on the record and the occasionally jumping timestamp I knew more or less exactly when the 3rd divine message started to play.
She was as unsettled as I had been that much was clear. She positively squirmed in her chair and even jumped up at one point, storming over to the record player and then away where she uncomfortably lay on one sofa. Beryl certainly had a stronger nerve than I that's for sure. Minutes into the 3rd divine message, far further than I myself had listened she leapt up onto her feet and began to tremble, rubbing at her arms and cowering into a half-fetal standing position as though doubled up in pain. She looked around, panicked, her slackjawed and bloodless gaze eventually settling on a patch of hallway off-camera.
At this point something began to affect the quality of the recording. It was as though the gamma settings were being increased, slowly and surely all the way to painful gleaming brightness. For no discernable reason some objects were immune to this affect; the TV for one, the upholstery of the furniture for another, the glass in the coffee table and display cases, the carpets, the kitchen worktops, the record player, and of course Mrs. Taggart herself. All broke up the yellowing glare and stood surprisingly stark in clear (if slightly pixelated) monochrome.
Mrs. Taggart then wandered blearily out of sight towards whatever she saw in the hallway and the video ended.
I opened a dictaphone app on my phone and hit record before calling the number in the letter. As such this conversation was transcribed as verbatim:
'Hello? Melinda Taggart speaking.'
'Hi this Mr. Thompson. I just received your letter.'
'Oh... I'm glad you called. Thank you. Did you see the video?'
'Just finished watching it yeah.'
'And what are your thoughts?'
'I... don't really know. I hate to ask, but the footage is unedited right?'
'Of course. The woman I love is missing, alright? This isn't some prank. It's that damn record you sent her isn't it? What is that godawful sound on it? I tried listening myself and I couldn't do it, it was really fucked up. What's it for?'
'I don't know that either. Would it be possible to come and see you?' I said without thinking. 'I'd like to see the scene for myself.'
'I guess so? I'm willing to try anything at this point.' I borrowed my father's mini and made the drive down to Wales that very afternoon, parking up in a nearby town and zigzagging around on different trains changing my outfit in every station. I paid cash for a taxi for the final leg of the journey and finally knocked on a heavy wooden door at nearly 9pm.
A small red-haired woman opened the door and peered up at me. Her eyes were swollen and ringed in darkness, no doubt from too many sleepless nights.
'Hello Mrs. Taggart,' I said respectfully. 'Sorry it took me so long to get here, hopefully I won't take up too much of your time.'
She stood back and held the door open for me before locking it tight behind a thick, iron bolt.
'Why are you here exactly?'
'I don't really know,' I admitted.
'You don't seem to know much of anything do you?' she scoffed.
She led me into the living room/kitchen area at the centre of the house and I immediately recognised all the fixtures and furnishings from the video. It looked so innocuous now, so smart and clean and beautiful, and still a heavy weight of dread hung in my chest all the same. There was a wrongness here that was both pervasive and inexplicable, and looking into the fraught features of Melinda Taggart I knew she could feel it too.
'Here,' she said, thrusting my uncle's record into my hands. 'You can take this when you go. I don't want that shit in my house anymore.'
'Uh, thanks. That's absolutely fine.'
For a while I awkwardly wandered around the space examining the items I had seen flaring in the video whilst Melinda glowered in the doorway. She soon got bored and offered to make me a coffee. I agreed and she left me alone.
I wandered into the hallway where Beryl had disappeared. It led to a ground floor bedroom, a closet and a small bathroom. There were windows she could have wriggled out of, but Melinda had already told me nobody was seen leaving or entering the property. Surely Beryl would know of any blindspots but the question was 'why?'; people didn't simply escape from their own homes like that. Then again what were the remaining implications? That she was still in the property somewhere? But where?
The feeling of wrongness was stronger in this wood-panelled hallway than anywhere else. I had felt such oppressive claustrophobia only once before, as a teenager on a visit to a maritime museum. There they had a replica of a small WWII submarine and I vividly recall feeling increasingly panicked after only a few minutes inside that thick metal tube.
I know this sounds very strange, but as I peered into the whorled grain of the wooden panels I was overcome with the uncanny feeling that they were peering back at me with the same curious fervour.
I looked over my shoulder to double-check I was still alone and then, acting on gut impulse I pulled my trusty penknife from one trouser pocket. I extended the shorter of the two blades and pushed it hard into the nearest panel, then, with a strenous dragging motion I scored a deep downward scratch maybe three or four inches in length.
It made a sharp sound and I instinctively looked over my shoulder a second time. Still no Melinda Taggart. By the time I turned back a moment later the knife-mark had filled with a rich pinkish-purple crimson that was already beginning to well and bead at the bottom. I dabbed at it with one fingertip and took a sniff. It was blood, of course it was.
Melinda reappeared with my coffee and I made a show of continuing to look around the living room whilst I drank it.
'So,' she eventually said once I'd swallowed the cooling dregs and reached for my coat. 'Any thoughts?'
I stood with my uncle's record under one arm and made for the door, pausing a moment before drawing back the bolt and reaching for the knob. I turned to look into the hallway one final time and could see where my cut in the wood was still shedding bright blood.
'If you're certain she never left the house then she must still be here.'
'I've searched everywhere!' she gasped, the disappointment in her voice quickly spiralling closer to desperation. 'She's not here.'
Through the window I could see the headlights of my taxi as it came to a stop at the end of the driveway. I pulled the door open and nodded my head into the hallway.
'I think she is Melinda, but I fear it won't be good news.'
In a heartbreaking double take she spotted the thin dribble of blood now three or four feet long and dashed over for a closer look. I'm more than a little ashamed to admit I took off, closing the door behind me and frogmarching to the taxi like a man on the run. As I stepped into the street I heard a bestial wail that curdled my blood and made me hang my head in shame (luckily the driver had the radio on and didn't seem to notice).
Truth be told I feared the men-in-black-cars would get wind of this story and step up the surveillance once more. Even if my name was brought up when Melinda no doubt called the police I figured staying physically out of the way was my best course of flying under the radar. I'd done a good job of pretending to get on with things the last few weeks and didn't want to undo all that hard work.
I kept an eye on local news for any mention of the missing historian and her wife's grisly discovery in the hallway walls. I never saw anything and I was never contacted by the police. I never heard from Melinda again either which is probably for the best. From her perspective I was surely more villain than ally; it was I who supplied the divine messages that somehow killed her beloved wife, and since it was also I who discovered what happened to her I felt it my duty to bear the guilt of all those new unanswered questions, questions that for the poor widow would likely never be answered. I was Melinda's mysterious villain for sure; I was her men-in-black-cars, a deeply disparaging thought that haunts me to the present day.

v. 36 Box Buying Strategy for New Players
Previous Post.
For those with reading disabilities, I've created a pictogram. It's less detailed, but hopefully easier on your eyes. You can click on Flowchart with Pictures or scroll down.
As you play the game, you will get missions that require you to use one of a group of emoji. We call these groups "tags". It costs 20 gems to skip a mission, and gems are precious, hard to come by, and should be hoarded for exclusive emoji. So to help you save on gems, here is a box buying strategy that will hopefully help you get all the tags you need before it becomes an issue. No exclusives or group collection emoji were considered in the calculations.
I created three visual aids on which I base my advice: Data Chart, Data Table 1 and Data Table 2. PLEASE let me know if you find any errors in the data sets or this post. Note that in the Data Tables, the Cinderella row and the Flying row have 2 purple boxes, each. This is because the Series 1 and Gold boxes were tied exactly. The auto-highlight became confused by this and colored them both purple. I left them that way because it's easier than fixing it. Especially since I'd just have to undo the fix when a new, non-exclusive gold emoji is released, anyway.
The most recent list of tags is here, starting with a list of tags for each emoji, and then a list of emoji for each tag.
My advice is, focus first on the FRANCHISES. (This uses mostly the top half of the Data Chart, if you want to follow along). Steps 1, 2 and 3 are interchangeable. At mission level 18, you can start getting certain tags from MISSION GROUP 3, including DISNEY PRINCESS, GREEN, and OUTER SPACE tags. If you already have Outer Space, you may wish to do step 2 before step 1. At mission level 50, you start getting MISSION GROUP 2 tags, which includes many franchises.
If you already have all the gold-only franchise tags (Coco, Hercules, Incredibles, Nightmare Before Christmas, Pocahontas, Princess and the Frog, Rescue Rangers, Snow White, Up, Wreck-it-Ralph), you may wish to skip the gold box in the rotation of silver, series and gold boxes. Or you can keep it in the rotation to get breadth of emoji for events and daily challenges.
If you already have all the silver-only franchise tags (Lion King, Little Mermaid, Monster’s Inc, Winnie-the-Pooh), the cat/dog tag, Jiminy, and Timothy Q. Mouse, you may wish to skip the silver box in the rotation of silver, series, gold boxes. Or you can keep it in the rotation to get breadth of emoji for events and daily challenges, and build up your silvers in preparation for maxing silvers. I think there are several benefits to maxing silvers, which I discuss in more detail below.
  1. Rotate SILVER, SERIES ONE, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. ALICE IN WONDERLAND
    2. CINDERELLA
    3. FINDING NEMO/DORY
    4. MUPPETS
    5. TOY STORY
    6. ZOOTOPIA
    7. OUTER SPACE (a MISSION GROUP 3 tag):
      1. SERIES ONE: Alien, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, WALL-E
      2. GOLD: Calhoun, Gonzo
  2. Rotate SILVER, SERIES TWO, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. ALADDIN
    2. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    3. MOANA
    4. MULAN
    5. TANGLED
    6. DISNEY PRINCESS:
      1. SILVER: Ariel
      2. SERIES TWO: Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Rapunzel
      3. GOLD: Merida, Pocahontas, Princess Atta, Snow White, Tiana
    7. GREEN:
      1. SILVER: Goofy, Jiminy Cricket, Mike
      2. SERIES TWO: Hatbox Ghost, Pascal, Peter Pan
      3. GOLD: Crush, Disgust, Fauna, Flit, Gus, Hugo, Louis, Mad Hatter
  3. Rotate SILVER, SERIES THREE, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.
    2. INSIDE OUT
    3. JUNGLE BOOK
  4. Rotate SILVER and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. COCO
    2. HERCULES
    3. INCREDIBLES
    4. LION KING
    5. LITTLE MERMAID
    6. NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    7. POCAHONTAS
    8. PRINCESS AND THE FROG
    9. RESCUE RANGERS
    10. SNOW WHITE
    11. UP
    12. WINNIE-THE-POOH
    13. WRECK-IT-RALPH
  5. If you haven't gotten a FROZEN tag yet, buy SERIES TWO until you do. SERIES TWO has slightly better odds than SERIES ONE, and also has OLAF. At some point you'll want OLAF at level 2, but don't worry about it right now. If you get SVEN instead of OLAF, take it and move on. SERIES TWO also has slightly better odds than SERIES ONE for getting a PETER PAN tag.
  6. Then take a look at what tags you have left to get, and use the bottom half of the Data Chart to plan your strategy. An explanation of how to use the chart is below. The remaining MISSION GROUP 3 tags are:
    1. BLUE:
      1. (18%) GOLD: Barley, Bruce, Destiny, Drizella, Fix-It Felix, Jr., Flik, Gadget, Gonzo, Ian, Lady Kluck, Madame Leota, Monterey Jack, Pegasus, Sadness, Sally, The Bride, The Prince, Yesss
      2. (17%) SILVER: Donald Duck, Dumbo, Eeyore, Jiminy Cricket, Sulley
      3. (16%) SERIES ONE: Dory, Genie, Stitch
      4. (11%) SERIES TWO: Abominable Snowman, Hatbox Ghost
      5. (10%) SERIES THREE: Joy, Sadness
    2. SCARY:
      1. (17%) SERIES TWO: Abominable Snowman, Beast, Hatbox Ghost
      2. (14%) SERIES THREE: Barbossa, Davy Jones, Kaa
      3. (8%) GOLD: Bruce, Jack Skellington, Louis, Madame Leota, Mary Sanderson, Sally, Sarah Sanderson, The Bride
      4. (7%) SILVER: Randall, Sulley
    3. YELLOW:
      1. (21%) SERIES ONE: Alice, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, WALL-E
      2. (20%) SILVER: Flounder, Pluto, Roz, Simba, Tigger, Winnie-the-Pooh
      3. (19%) SERIES THREE: Cruz Ramirez, Joy, Launchpad McQuack, Princess Aurora
      4. (16%) GOLD: Anastasia, Arthur, Bo Peep, Calhoun, Dash, Finnick, Flora, Gonzo, Iago, Kronk, Kuzco, Lady Kluck, Mr. Incredible, Russell, Sarah Sanderson
      5. (11%) SERIES TWO: Lumiere, Rapunzel
  7. The remaining relevant tags are:
    1. BEARDED
    2. CAT/DOG (best odds in SILVER)
    3. DISNEY PRINCE (best odds in SERIES TWO)
    4. EYEWEAR (best odds in SERIES THREE)
    5. FLYING
    6. JEWELRY-WEARING
    7. PURPLE
    8. RED
  8. Once you have all tags covered:
    1. Rotate SILVER and SERIES THREE until you get JOY. She's excellent for 'combo stasun' missions.
    2. Rotate SILVER and SERIES TWO until you get OLAF to LEVEL TWO. That'll get you through the 'combo sun/sun' missions.
    3. Rotate SILVER with a SERIES box that has the DUPLICATOR of your choice. GENIE and NEMO are favored duplicators in SERIES ONE, as are HATBOX GHOST and PASCAL in SERIES TWO. Your odds are 10.5% and 11.1%, respectively. However, RANDALL in the SILVERS is also a great duplicator. I also like FLOUNDER.
    4. Rotate SILVER with a SERIES box until you get your SCORE BOOSTER of choice. I love MRS. POTTS, but others prefer SEBASTIAN, MARIE, LADY, AURORA, etc..
    5. You may want to go for a TIME BOOSTER. Personally, my favorite is COGSWORTH (Series 3), but others prefer WHITE RABBIT (Series 1), CELIA (Silvers), or RAINBOW MICKEY (Rainbow Exclusive).
    6. JIMINY is in SILVER, and great for star and other missions.
    7. TIMOTHY Q. MOUSE is in SILVER, and good for survival events (though I prefer Evil Queen). I think he also unlocks items during item events.
    8. LIGHTNING MCQUEEN is in SERIES THREE, and at higher levels he's good for cloud/cloud missions, but I don't remember what that level is. Most players get by with Mickey or Boo until then.
  9. Before, at the point I had advised players to max silver. However, now that many events are behind a 'paywall', in order to avoid having to pay or miss out on events, players should be sure to get a level 3 emoji from each FRANCHISE before maxing silvers. Hopefully you will have a number of level 3 emoji already, just from the randomness of collecting all the tags.
  10. Rotate SILVER and GOLD until you have a good coverage of GOLD to get you through the Daily Challenges.
  11. Max SILVER, as maxing SILVERS nets you RABBIT, 8-BIT MICKEY, BOO, and SPIRIT MUFASA. Also, maxing The Little Mermaid silvers will guarantee you a KING TRITON next time that group is offered for sale in the Diamond Box. Jiminy is great for stars, so makes sense to max him to speed him up. Timothy Q. Mouse is great for survival events, so ditto. Bambi, Marie, and Dumbo are in a group collection. Maxing them helps you get diamond chests. I think that only leaves Nala, Thumper, Pinocchio, Figaro, and Perdita as not being useful to max. And 3 of those are exclusives so you can choose not to pursue them.
At this point, you may want to go around getting ALL of your golds and series to level 3 (as opposed to just one from each franchise,) before you worry about maxing anything, as level 3 is when emoji start getting good. Also, events are now being restricted so only certain emoji at level 3 will give you access to events at higher levels. Having multiple level 3s from each franchise will reduce the odds of not being able to participate. Alternatively, you could pick another box to max. For this, you may want to look at group collections to guide you where to start.
Group Collection Prizes:
  1. Specific emoji prize: Normally, you must max all emoji in the collection to receive a level 1 of the emoji prize. However, Frozone and Gramma Tala level up as you level their respective groups, so you can get them early.
  2. Rainbow Bolt: You can use it to substitute one duplicate of a silver, series, or gold box emoji, without spending coins. Never spend it on a silver box, because then you are only getting half it's potential value. I would recommend saving these for a gold emoji you need to level to participate in a restricted event. Rainbow bolts are also called lightning charges, lightning bolts, and power charges, by your fellow redditors.
  3. Rainbow Box: Thus far, all Rainbow boxes have the following odds:
    1. Equal chance of attaining: Holiday Minnie, Holiday Pluto, "Dog", Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey, King Triton, Rose Gold Minnie, Rainbow Mickey, or Edna
  4. Villain Box: Thus far, all Villain boxes have the following odds:
    1. 13% chance of attaining: Ursula, Scar, Shenzi, Hades, Magica de Spell. Dr. Facilier, or Tamatoa
    2. 7% chance of attaining: Cruella de Vil
Group Collection Emoji:
  1. SERIES ONE has 12 out of 19 emoji (63%) that lead to group collection prizes:
    1. BABY DORY: Dory, Nemo
    2. CATERPILLAR: Alice, Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit
    3. MARSHMALLOW: Anna, Elsa
    4. RAJAH: Genie
    5. Rainbow Bolt: Tinker Bell
      1. You will also need Fairy Godmother (level 200 prize) and Blue Fairy (level 300 prize) for Fairies Group
    6. Rainbow Box: Tinker Bell
      1. You will also need Wendy (Exclusive), Smee (Exclusive), and Captain Hook (Villain) to attain this prize.
    7. Villain Box: Buzz Lightyear, Woody
      1. You will also need Zurg (villain) to attain this prize.
    8. Chest: Cinderella
  2. SERIES TWO has 17 out of 18 emoji (94%) that lead to group collection prizes, 6 of whom are in 2 groups (I'm just waiting for them to create a group with Abominable Snowman, lol, and they'll have 100%):
    1. BABY DORY: Hank
    2. CHIP (POTTS): Belle, Lumiere, The Beast
    3. GRAMMA TALA: Maui, Moana, Pua
    4. MARSHMALLOW: Olaf, Sven
    5. RAJAH: Aladdin, Jasmine
    6. Rainbow Box (Peter Pan Group): Peter Pan
      1. You will also need Wendy (Exclusive), Smee (Exclusive), and Captain Hook (Villain) to attain this prize.
    7. Rainbow Box (Tangled Group): Pascal, Rapunzel
      1. You will also need Tiara Rapunzel (Rainbow) and Mother Gothel (Villain) to attain this prize
    8. Villain Box: Mulan, Mushu
      1. You will also need Ping (Rainbow) and Shan Yu (Villain) to attain this prize
    9. Chests: Aladdin, Belle, Hatbox Ghost, Jasmine, Mulan, Rapunzel, The Beast
  3. SERIES THREE has 6 out of 21 emoji (29%) that lead to group collection prizes, 2 of whom are in 2 groups:
    1. BING-BONG: Joy, Sadness
    2. CHIP (POTTS): Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts
    3. Chests: Princess Aurora (2 groups), Prince Phillip (2 groups)
  4. GOLD has 43 out of 95 emoji (not including exclusives) (45%) that lead to group collection prizes:
  • Emoji prizes:
  1. BABY DORY: Bruce, Crush
  2. BING-BONG: Anger, Disgust, Fear
  3. CATERPILLAR: Mad Hatter
  4. FROZONE: Dash, Elastigirl, Jack-Jack (exclusive), Mr. Incredible, Violet
  5. GRAMMA TALA: Hei Hei
  6. KITTY YZMA: Kronk, Kuzco, Pacha
    1. If you max these, you will still need 3 duplicates of Yzma (villain) to unlock Kitty Yzma (Rainbow)
    2. Kitty Yzma may be available in a diamond box without having to go through maxing most of the group
  7. MARSHMALLOW: Kristoff
  8. RAJAH: Abu
  • Non-emoji prizes:
  1. Rainbow Bolt: Flora, Fauna, Merryweather (exclusive)
    1. You will also need Fairy Godmother (level 200 prize) and Blue Fairy (level 300 prize) for Fairies Group
  2. Rainbow Box (Tangled Group): Flynn Rider, Maximus
    1. You will also need Tiara Rapunzel (Rainbow) and Mother Gothel (Villain) to attain this prize
  3. Rainbow Box (Hercules Group): Hercules, Meg, Pegasus, Phil
    1. You will also need Zeus (Rainbow) and Hades (Villain)
  4. Villain Box (Cinderella Villains Group): Anastasia, Drizella
    1. You will also need Lady Tremaine (Villain) and Lucifer (Villain) to attain this prize.
  5. Villain Box (Mulan Group): Cri-Kee
    1. You will also need Ping (Rainbow) and Shan Yu (Villain) to attain this prize
  6. Villain Box (Toy Story Group): Bullseye, Jessie, Hamm
    1. You will also need Zurg (Villain) to attain this prize
  7. Villain Box (Wreck-it Ralph Group): Calhoun, Fix-It Felix, Jr., Ralph, Vanellope (exclusive)
  8. Chests: Dale, Madame Leota, Pocahontas, Snow White, The Bride, The Prince, Tiana, Webby
CAVEATS:
  • "Dog" is ALWAYS available from UP, if you get 10 FB friends on your leaderboard.
  • The two exceptions to CAT/DOG always being FOUR-LEGGED are CLAWHAUSER and YZMA KITTY, but this post doesn't consider Exclusive emoji.
  • Keep in mind that of the MONSTERS, INC. emoji, only the professional scarers, SULLEY and RANDALL, count as SCARY.
  • While you might think that Vanellope would qualify as a DISNEY PRINCESS for the purpose of DEB (especially since Princess Atta so qualifies), you'd be wrong. They finally added a Disney Princess tag to Moana in v.34.
  • GOOFY is NOT a Dog (for purposes of DEB). But you can read a gut-busting article on the subject, here.
  • Chip (Potts) is the only GC prize that can be won just from series boxes (TWO and THREE).
  • GRAMMA TALA can be obtained without maxing her group. Because of this, she can be obtained just from those three Moana emoji which are in series box TWO, without needing Hei Hei (unless you want to max her).
  • FROZONE can be obtained without maxing his group, so he’s obtainable (if un-maxable) without Jack-Jack.
  • Please feel free to double check my math. No, really.
EXCLUSIVES. What do you need to know? There are three kinds of exclusive emoji (as indicated by the symbol in the upper-left corner):
  1. Exclusive-unlock. These are otherwise normal silver and gold emoji that can only be unlocked from an event or by purchasing a diamond box. However, they can be leveled like any other silver or gold by purchasing them with coins and getting a duplicate.
    1. Silver exclusive-unlock: Figaro, Nala, Thumper
    2. Gold exclusive-unlock: Aqua, Archimedes, BB-8, Chewbacca, Clawhauser, Duke Caboom, Finn, Flash, Forky, Han Solo, Heimlich, Hondo, Jack-Jack, Luke Skywalker, Mal, Mater, Meeko, Merryweather, Miss Piggy, Mr. Toad, Princess Leia, R2-D2, Ray, Remy, Rey, Robin Hood, Smee, Sora, Swedish Chef, The Mandalorian, The Manticore, Vanellope, Wendy, Winifred
  2. Group Collection Prizes. These can only be obtained by maxing all the emoji in their respective group collection, with the exceptions of Frozone and Gramma Tala, who unlock early and level up as you max their group's emoji. (In the shop page, Group Prizes show with a diamond in the corner, but on the 'more emoji' page they have a smiley face instead).
    1. Silver Group Prizes: 8-Bit, Boo, Rabbit
    2. Gold Group Prizes: Baby Dory, Bing-Bong, Caterpillar, Chip (Potts), Marshmallow, Rajah
    3. Rainbow Group Prizes: Frozone, Gramma Tala, Kitty Yzma, Spirit Mufasa
  3. Rainbows and Villains (other than Group Prizes). The majority can only be obtained from completing an event, or purchasing a diamond box. Some of them are also offered as mission level rewards. "Dog" can be obtained by getting 10 FB friends. (And once, they did offer King Triton and S.A. Mickey for 120,000/duplicate, which was amazing but has yet to be repeated).
    1. Level 50: Ursula
    2. Level 100: Yen Sid
    3. Level 150: Maleficent
    4. Level 200: Fairy Godmother
    5. Level 250: Jafar
    6. Level 300: Blue Fairy
    7. Level 350: The swiniest swine in the world
    8. Level 400: Enchantress
    9. Level 450: Scar
  4. Story Box. This is new. I don't have much information on it yet, except that some (but not all) 'variant' movie emoji, (Mrs. Nesbit, Ping, Tiara Rapunzel, Santa Jack, Spirit Mufasa, Winter Belle, and Yzma Kitty), will be in this box.
All of these do come around again. But sometimes it can take more than a year.
NEW! Exclusives are part of a new box, Card Collector Box, where players can purchase the lucky emoji for each item card. Some of these emoji are exclusive unlocks, Rainbows, and Villains. Some can also be won as prizes. Their availability can be seen here.
For players who are following this guide, if you could keep track of some information and report in now and then, that would be helpful for me to refine my advice. I only have 1 question for my readers… in 27 parts.
  1. How the buying strategy is working for you?
  2. When you started the strategy:
    1. What level were you?
    2. How many emoji did you have unlocked from each box?
    3. Which tags did you have covered?
  3. Since starting this strategy:
    1. What level are you on now?
    2. How many emoji have you unlocked from each box?
    3. Which additional tags do you have covered?
The more information you can give me, if you're up for it, the better it will help me refine my advice; thanks!
Flowchart with Pictures
Data Chart
Data Table 1
Data Table 2
The way the Data Chart is meant to work, is like this. I figure that because there are so very many franchise tags, (and events locked behind franchise-specific emoji) that new players need to focus on those tags first. They will pick up plenty of other tags while going after the franchise tags.
The top row of the FRANCHISE section lists when a box is your ONLY option for a FRANCHISE emoji if you want to purchase them with coins, or if Rainbows and Villains aren't available. GOLD has the most number of FRANCHISE-specific tags where the GOLD box is your ONLY option to get thse 10 franchises. There are four franchises only available in SILVER, and Pirates of the Caribbean is only available in SERIES THREE.
There are additional franchises, and non-franchise tags, that are technically available in multiple boxes, but your odds are waaay better in one particular box. That's the middle row in the "franchise tags" section and the top row of the "non-franchise tags" section, which I call "WINS BY-A-MILE".
There is some franchise and non-franchise tags where the race is much closer, so I list them under multiple boxes, and differentiate between them by calling them "WIN", "PLACE", and “SHOW”, and “ALSO-RAN” (or 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, etc., respectively). I call this category "WINS BY-A-NOSE", and it goes under the "WINS BY-A-MILE" row in both sections. You can see the actual percentage differences best in the second Data Table.
The difference between 'WINS BY-A-MILE' and 'WINS BY-A-NOSE' is the significance of the difference between the 1st and 2nd place box for a given tag. A 2.4% difference is minuscule when comparing 16.7% to 14.3% in the SCARY tag. It's a much bigger difference when comparing a 2.6% difference between 5.3% and 2.7% for PRINCESS AND THE FROG. For that matter, FROZEN doesn't have a "Show" because 3rd place was too far away, relative to 1st and 2nd place.
Lastly, there are 9 non-franchise tags which are IRRELEVANT as far as coverage is concerned, because they are subsumed by other tag categories, or everyone has that category covered because everyone gets MICKEY. The tags covered by getting MICKEY are: ANIMAL, BIG-EARED, BOY, MICKEY & FRIENDS.
The other irrelevant tags are:
  • FOUR-LEGGED (subsumed by the CAT/DOG category - except for CLAWHAUSER, but we’re ignoring him because he’s Exclusive)
  • GIRL (subsumed by the DISNEY PRINCESS category)
  • HAT-WEARING (all the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN wear hats).
  • PIXAR (subsumed by Pixar franchise categories)
  • UNDERWATER (subsumed by the FINDING NEMO/DORY category, and most of the LITTLE MERMAID category).
In the "non-franchise tags" section, you will see some tags are bolded and italicized. These are the relevant tags from the MISSION GROUP 3 tags.

2020.07.17 18:16 _c9s_ Areas without Coronavirus spread (17th July update)

Here's an update to the post I made last week looking at the end of the spectrum we're not talking about so much - where we're not seeing many cases of Coronavirus spreading in the UK.
Orkney and the Western Isles are the only areas that haven't seen any cases in the past month now, with the other areas that were getting close last week mostly having a low number of cases crop up over the week.

Here's a big table of the date of the latest case reported in each local authority/health board, and how many cases they've had in the past two weeks:

Notes for Scotland

Scotland reports data based on local health boards rather than local authorities and with the date they were reported rather than the date the swab was taken. This will result in higher numbers than elsewhere and the latest cases being slightly more recent than the rest of the UK.

Notes for NI

Some parts of NI are reporting negative cases, which is mathematically impossible. I believe is due to the authorities reporting data incorrectly and then correcting it later without updating the historical data.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot)
More than 200 serving police officers in the UK have convictions for criminal offences including assault, burglary, drug possession and animal cruelty, Sky News can reveal.
North Wales Police said 20 police officers and five PCSOs have criminal convictions, including a sergeant convicted of assault, two officers guilty of drug possession and two officers convicted of cruelty to animals.
Seven Dorset Police officers have criminal convictions including a constable convicted of burglary and ABH, and a constable guilty of causing unnecessary cruelty to a protected animal.
Devon and Cornwall Police said nine serving police constables have convictions for crimes including drink driving and Data Protection Act offences.
Cheshire Police said 18 serving police officers or PCSOs have been convicted of crimes but refused to reveal any further details, saying it would breach the Data Protection Act.

2020.07.09 18:44 _c9s_ Areas where Coronavirus isn't spreading

With lots of talk about the places where cases are spiking, I thought it might be interesting to look at the other end of the spectrum - where we're not seeing any cases reported.
Below is a list of all the Local Authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and health boards in Scotland, the date of their most recent case, and the number of cases in the past two weeks. Sorry for the length of this post!

Derry City and Strabane is the only part of the UK that haven't seen a case in over a month, with Uttlesford (in Essex), the Scottish isles (Orkney, Western Isles), and parts of the South West (Bath, North Devon) only slightly behind with no cases in the past 3 weeks.
Living in one of those areas, it does make me quite a bit less hesitant to do things like go to the pub, since there's such a low chance of catching it.

Notes for Scotland

Scotland reports data based on local health boards rather than local authorities and with the date they were reported rather than the date the swab was taken. This will result in higher numbers than elsewhere and the latest cases being slightly more recent than the rest of the UK.

Notes for NI

Some parts of NI (and also Scotland) are reporting negative cases, which is mathematically impossible. I believe is due to the authorities reporting data incorrectly and then correcting it later without updating the historical data. In Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, as an example, there had been 754 confirmed cases on the 25th of June, which has dropped in several stages to 744 today.

Data sources

Edit: Welsh data was missing. I've added it now!

2020.06.15 05:26 TokyoCity93 A trip on 3 tabs of triple dipped LSD or Was it Mescaline?

This is a story of a trip I had in 2014 right after seeing the movie Interstellar with a group of my closest friends. Now I have always been into psychedelics having done mushrooms, DMT, lsd, mescaline, mdma ect.
Never have I ever had a trip this damn hard. Before I get started I just want to state I have never done these types of drugs to get fucked up and party. I only used them to access different levels of consciousness. My homies would always come to me if they wanted to have an experience of their life time. What can I say I know how to get peoples minds right when it comes to exploring the vastness of human conscious. I’ll wrap that up and start with the story.
So we had picked up our acid from a very reputable acid connect who sourced to local festivals all over the world the stuff was always A+ but this shit was triple A never have I ever had anything like it again DMT couldn’t even get me to the level I was at that night. I can remember this trip like it was yesterday that’s how lucid and vivid it was. Moving on my buddies and I had just watched the movie Interstellar when it was released to theaters in 2014. Returning to my friends house me and my other buddy decided we were going to take our hits my 2 other friends backed out one left and one had decide to just spectate and make sure nothing goes wrong. The buddy that decided to trip with me took 1 hit leaving me with 3 now I picked these bad boys up. I watched my dude soak these suckers in a vile with some tweezers wrapped them in tin foil and passed them on to me. I’m not joking when I put those under my tongue I was nervous but hey I was experienced so I was ready. Not even 25 minutes goes by and I started feeling really clammy. The room was feeling dry and my heart was starting to beat fast. I literally felt like I was dying. I told my friends I thought I was dying this was it and all I remember after that is darkness took over. I had crawled onto their bed and from there my consciousness had left my body and went into the void. (My friends said I looked as if I had just pasted out).
So I’m chilling in the darkness now and I have this visualization of a cut wire shooting out blue sparks I’m assuming I was the wire and the sparks was my connection. I saw nothing not my body nothing but darkness and this wire with the voices saying “hey we have a connection”. As soon as that happened I was booted up into this room filled with servers still no body but millions and millions of computer servers. In an all white clean room. Walls were just servers floor white sealing white everything white. Then a black and white like hypnotizing spiral took over my whole vision and I was placed in this laboratory room still all white with 4 people standing around me on an operating table. It’s like I was abducted by aliens. They were just looking at me talking in a language foreign to me but yet I still felt like I could understand them. They looked like the characters from the Rugrats all grown up. Tommy, chucky, Phil, and Angelica. They were humans though. After spending some time there I then was hypnotized again and placed in this realm that looked like the boss fight level when you are saving princess peach from bowser. I was able to see myself from third person. While in this space I was getting asked questions by the Cheshire Cat from Alice and wonderland but he didn’t seem as friendly. The Cheshire kept slinking out of my site asking me what I was experiencing while hiding behind pillars in this life like Mario dungeon. I had no answer for him and this is when things start getting crazy. Each time I guessed the wrong answer I would get sent to another realm or dimension. I am going to share with you the few that I remember as this went on for 9 straight hours.
The first time I answer wrong I was sent to a realm where I was dead and I was being carried in a casket through the Oval Office surrounded by a lot of people I didn’t know. They were all sad and crying and I was only able to look around with my eyes I couldn’t moved or anything. When they carried me through the halls and out the doors I was hearing prayers and weeping of loved ones. I was closed casket at this time and I could hear dirt being dumped onto my casket. The light disappearing from the cracks in the wood I was back in darkness. I ended up back in the dungeon got the question wrong again and now I am in the second realm I remember.
This time I was in the center of Wall Street in NYC. With 3 other people again not knowing any of them. We were just bar hoping and getting trashed together it literally felt like a long night out with the boys. In an instant flash I was back to the dungeon. Guess what wrong answer again this time I was back in the server room and fucking Steve Jobs is there giving me this huge lecture on technology and the importance it holds for human evolution. He showed me how he wanted to combine humans with tech and make it where we could use our minds to pull up data and bring to life anything we could think. Basically if you could visualize it you could think it into existence in this place. After this I don’t remember going back to the dungeon but I was zapped into this beautiful place I was part of this tribe of people that kinda looked like the elf’s from lord of the rings. I was there and they were celebrating me they had walked miles with me to this mountain that had what we know as stone hedges this was a sacred place to them and it was beautiful I can’t even explain it. I was being married to this astonishing being and during the ceremony it was accustomed that we had intercourse in the middle of this place to make the bond sealed. I was able to talk to this spirit and I had asked her if I could please stay here she spoke to me in the softest of words and told me it was not my time and I wouldn’t be able to come back until it was. That moment was over in a instant I was back in the dungeon with the Cheshire Cat and this time he face to face with me. He asked me what am I experiencing and I said without a doubt I am having an epiphany. By the time I finished the statement I was back in our world.
I was awake and alive as if I never even taken those hits. I asked my friends what had happened and my buddy and his girlfriend just said dude you were fucked up. They told me I had them so worried to the point my buddy didn’t even really get to experience his own trip. They told me I kept sitting up asking them if I was dead if this was real? I don’t ever recall doing any of that besides the beginning of the trip. They told me I would stand up and walk around there house as if I was coherent but not. They told me I had an episode at one point were I was just standing looking at the kitchen wall balling my eyes out. I don’t remember any of that I just remember jumping around the other dimensions or realms of time. After this trip I tried so hard to get back to that level even after the spirit I married to and sealed a physical bond with told me I couldn’t return. I still tried and every time I tried I failed DMT couldn’t even get me there after multiple attempts I gave up. It’s been about 5 years maybe a few months longer and I haven’t tripped since my last attempt each time just became really bad trips and connects fell off. One thing I did gain from this trip is hypersensitivity to vibes, lucid dreaming, and ability to predict whether something good or bad is going to happen. I’m not saying like psychic abilities because it comes at random but my mind is definitely more in sync with something. My dreaming abilities are so good that if I am meditating and clearing my mind I can have some seriously life like dreams it’s like I’m living a double life and I am able to tell when I am dreaming and stay asleep and explore my dream worlds. This is part of the reason I feel I don’t really ever have to trip again because I can dream on command and remember them. I have such vivid dreams that allot of the times it’s hard for me to tell what is what and that’s what has brought me here. I really want to animate my trip one day so that I could show people what I went through because trying to describe it just does not do it justice. I am posting this because No one I know has been through anything similar to this I wanted to turn to the internet for opinions and possibly some good conversation. Thank you for reading!
PS I was never really a believer in higher powers or religions until after this experience but those are different topics and experiences for another night.

2020.06.15 05:13 TokyoCity93 A trip on 3 tabs of triple dipped LSD or Was it Mescaline?

2020.05.27 20:58 cthulhuiscool2 Survey reveals clues to how an early General Election would play out

UUP ALL LPNI IPP ILP DUP Other
Northern Ireland 32.79% 17.84% 15.10% 11.62% 9.82% 9.25% 3.58%

Cheshire 31.85% 21.16% 26.21% 6.90% 6.35% 7.54%
Birmingham, Solihull, and Coventry 16.39% 32.14% 22.44% 19.76% 4.93% 4.35%
EDIT: The tables don't seem to work properly on mobile so here is the full data.
A survey obtained by the Surrey Comet reveals the Ulster Union Party with a 15% lead over the nearest competition in Northern Ireland. An important distinction, voters were asked who they would vote for in a General Election rather than a Devolved Election. With voters due to participate in the election of a new Northern Ireland Assembly on the 5th of June, the most recent available polling sees the UUP slump to only 19%. The people of Northern Ireland may trust the UUP to govern in Westminster but trust them far less to govern in Stormont. The Labour Party of Northern Ireland comparatively polls at near 30%. It is hard to image any other party emerging as victors.
A poll was also conducted in five seats of the House of Commons in England and Scotland. Assuming there is no early election, voters will have to wait a number of months before electing a new House.
Hampshire North is a seat once held by the former Prime Minister model-mili. House of Commons newcomer Walter_heisenberg2 currently holds the seat and will no doubt enjoy the result of this survey with the Conservative Party remaining dominant. The Liberals, the only opponent during the election, falls to fourth place. The Liberals may yet challenge the incumbent with support from Labour and the Libertarian Party.
In Clydeside the Labour Party remains the dominate force with only a joint ticket of the Conservative Party and the Libertarians able to mount any challenge. Even then only a strong campaign will worry the incumbent. With the Conservatives only recording 8.47% during the general election, it is perhaps the Scottish Conservatives with the most to celebrate.
The seat of the Government's Chief Whip, Southwest London appears to be a battle between the incumbent and a resurgent Labour Party. This survey may well cause the Chief Whip to sweat at the thought of an early election. Labour did not stand in this seat during the contest, instead choosing to endorse the Liberal Democrats, who appear to have suffered from a marked decline in support. An endorsement from a smaller party would do much to boost the chances of the Labour Party or aid the Conservatives in mounting a defence. This seat is sure to be within the cross hairs of Labour strategists.
Cheshire is another Conservative seat whose incumbent enjoys a reasonable lead over Conservative and Libertarian rivals. The Libertarians in particular will celebrate this survey having only won 8.15% of the vote at the general election - support increasing three-fold. However without endorsement, Labour and the Libertarian party may split the vote - handing the Conservatives a slim victory.
Birmingham, Solihull, and Coventry played host to one of the closest results of election night with the Liberal Democrats besting the Libertarians by 0.8%. This survey, if accurate, tells a different story. The Labour Party has found strong support and will certainly consider this a seat within their reach.
Overall this survey will come as some relief to the Labour Party and may prove a source of conern for the Government. Without the national picture, the picture of these six constituencies sees the Labour Party find more success than many would have expected. And, will cause the Conservative Party to dread the possibility of an early election.
With thanks to the Speaker of the Commons britboy3456 who provided this survey. All data includes a sizeable margin of error.

2020.05.07 01:22 diabeticoats Gaming myself with cycling

I am the wrong side of the overweight-normal BMI boundary (not by much, but i worked hard to get from a BMI of 33+ to 24.9, so be 25.7 is frustrating) and I do want to get under 25 once more. I am a bit of a data nerd and don't really enjoy exercising, although I do enjoy cycling.
So ... I've set up a 6.3km circular segment on Strava near my house. It's a 10km route to get there, do it, and get back, which I can do in my lunchbreak (I can do two circuits of my circular route if I want). It's a 2km uphill slog on the roads, followed by an 1.5km unpaved and poorly paved route to a bridleway/cyclepath to take me back to the road. So it's a mixture of quiet country lane, track and cyclepath, to probably test all terrain types :)
I wanted to do this in under 16 minutes before the end of April, which I did on the 30th April. I then have to do a 5% improvement for the end of May (which I did today). I have a further 5% improvement due before the end of June, and so on. I know I will probably hit the limits of my fitness and my equipment before too long, but I wanted to set myself a challenge.
I have been trimming weight, analysing every aspect of the route. I can see where I can improve time and so on. It's strangely addictive. And it means that my cycling has a point :)
I am also hoping it will improve my fitness as I sprint around the Cheshire countryside for fifteen minutes each day.
So, is anyone else doing this or something like this?
(The segment is at https://www.strava.com/segments/23719530 BTW)

2020.04.26 09:58 Rocknocker OBLIGATORY FILLER MATERIAL – Just take a hard left at Daeseong-dong…11

Continuing…
That being handled, I leave a wakeup call for 0430 as I want a shower and a couple shower-sunrisers before we leave. It takes me about 10 minutes to pack. I call home to let Es know what’s going on. She’s not in, so I leave a message. Same for my friends Rack and Ruin of the Agency. They’re thrilled so far with my reports.
The security forces here are absolutely going to freak if they reverse-review my phone records once we leave.
Covert? Schmovert. I’m too old for playing such games.
The next morning, after a sudsy shower and a couple of vodka-infused shower-beers; I’m in the lobby with all my kit, checked-out, and waiting on the tour leader. My passport was stamp-stamp-stampity-stamped here at the hotel, which I thought was weird, but after spending time in this here country, not all that unusual.
At 0545 on the dime, the tour bus pulls into the lot. Without a word, bellhops grab near all my kit and escort it out to the waiting bus.
After tipping each extravagantly, I fire up a huge cigar, and wander around outside, loitering by the bus. I see members of my team at the front desk, checking out. Everything’s been paid for already, they just have to sign documents that they’re not secreting hotel towels or televisions or errant nationals in their luggage.
It’s a weird country.
I see them loading box breakfasts for us as well as box lunches on the bus.
Hell, they’re actually doing ‘field trip’ correctly.
If the bus us fueled up, we can go for days at this rate. There are several coolers bearing the hotel’s brand and I sidle over to see what they’re carrying.
Case after case of iced-down beer and a couple of cases of various high-octane potables; and over there? A couple of boxes of mixers…ah, soda…pop…carbonated citrusy goodness.
“OK”, I sigh, “All is as it should be. Now the field excursion may begin.”
My teammates filter outside as does their luggage. I suggest they get out and keep what is necessary for preliminary outcrop excursions; such as a backpack or knapsack, hammer, acid bottles, field notebooks, Brunton compass, lighters, cameras, personal tobacco products, and the like in the bus. That way, we don’t have to go tearing through all the luggage at every stop.
I pull out a bundle of 100 Hubco™ large geological dual-sample bags. That’s right: ‘dual’ sample…
I distribute these to everyone on the team. I ask that they devise their own numbering system and make absolutely certain I have a copy of it when we’re done. I’ll be correlating and curating all the samples when we get back to the world.
I ask that a cooler of drinks are left on board the bus, rather than in the hold. It’s humid, sticky, and muggy today. We must expend valiant effort in remaining hydrated and this will help.
Luckily, the bus has on-board lavatory facilities.
We are seated on the bus, my 10 collective team members, myself, our 4 ‘guides’, ‘Yuk’, ‘No’, ‘Man’, and ‘Kong’; our driver, relief driver, one incredibly shy national geologist, Myung-Dae Soo, and four of the shiny suit clan.
The hotel wheels out a large cart laden with pastries and a huge coffee urn. A bit of a “Bon Voyage” from the casino and bar crowd, as they put this together for us when they heard we were leaving.
“Hey. That’s really nice of them.” Dax notes.
Dax handed over our raw “elevator waiting” funds as we didn’t have time to run it through the casino-machine before we left. We donated over 75,000 won to our friends at the bar, casino, and massage parlor. The ones delivering our going away present assured us it would be divided equitably.
“It best be”, I laughed, “You never know when one of us might be back!”
There was a collective horrified look on their faces for the merest moments. Then they all laughed and said that they hoped we would return someday soon.
“Nice folks”, I thought, “Stupid as shit country, but nice folks.”
We had all separately left tips for the room maids, bellmen, and matrons back before we checked-out.
There was a flurry of handshaking and goodbyes. Not a bad hotel experience here in the so-called land of Best Korea.
Serious dark coffee was passed out amongst the riders, but Ivan, myself, and Dax were already giving one of my emergency flasks a workout.
Ivan smiled and said: “We drink our coffee the Russian way. That is to say we had vodka before it and vodka afterward. HA!”
Ivan and I are cut from the same bolt.
Faux-doughnuts, pseudo-bear claws and fake-long johns all distributed; the bus is fired up, and rumbling. We are exhorted to watch our drinks as we pull away from the hotel and into the wilds of Northern Korea.
I’m humming away:

On the road again -Just can't wait to get on the road again,
The life I love is bashing rocks in the field with my friends.
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again.
Goin' places that we've never been,
Seein' things that we may never see again…
--
“Rock?”, Dax inquires.
“Yes?” I reply.
“Do please shut up.”
“Music hater”, I muse and comply.
We’re rolling down the highway, as it were, headed generally north. We all have cameras of one kind or another; and rather than relieve us of them, they quietly and without much fuss, slowly darken the windows.
They claim it’s to keep the sun out and temperatures down, but just before things go all black, we’re seeing sights and scenes of the true North Korea. They’re trying to keep us from seeing that en route to the outcrops.
This new bus has some sort of electronic tint-control gizmo for the windows. However, if one has a pair of polarizing sunglasses, as all good field geologists do, you see right past that and can view the passing scenery unencumbered.
I return from a quick beer-recycling loo trip and am amused to see 10 Western scientists, sitting in a blacked-out bus, all wearing polarizing sunglasses.
It was just the surreal note this trip needed as we left the confines of the capital city.
We traveled north, and the empties pile began to grow. We had a few trash bags we had liberated from the hotel, but the shiny suits were very insistent that every empty can, bottle, and bag, yes they had beer in bags…had to be repatriated to a box in the far back of the bus.
Evidently, they either were paid a bounty on each container or were accountable for each vessel. They were soon to realize just the capacity for drink that a group of 11 seasoned very Senior Field Geologists, and one stowaway geologist-in-training can amass.
As we ply our way northward, we see the agricultural side of North Korea. The contrast between rural areas and the capital was striking. There were miles of rice paddies being harvested by people with sickles in their hands. And no cars on the highway. It was most destabilizing for this Westerner.
I think we saw a maximum of three tractors, as most of the work was done with ox power, there was very little evidence of rural electrification. Oh, hold on. We saw many more tractors, I should correct that: we saw three running and not rusted into oblivion tractors.
The farmers we see are using equipment that is quite literally medieval - single-share plows pulled by large, cranky bovines; sweeping sickles to bring in the harvest, and twin-engine, bilateral, botanical-fired ox-carts to transport it. It’s hard to believe that this third-world level of poverty exists in the same country that’s capable of building rockets, nuclear weapons, and tall, well-appointed hotels.
But when we stop at a motorway service station for fuel - a bizarre alien spaceship-like building squatting over the empty carriageways - we do encounter a jangmadang, or semi-official market. Here they are selling cans of knock-off Vietnamese Red Bull and Malaysian-made King Cobra™ Cola.
It reminds me of Russia right after the wall fell. Off the Trans-Siberian Railway in Krasnoyarsk, the Gateway to Eastern Siberia. You can buy Chinese hams, Chinese sodas, Chinese knock-off liquor, and those bloody delicious little bullets of Vitamin-C, Chinese mandarins.
Here, it’s similar. You can get most anything you desire, except it isn’t of Korean manufacture. That stuff is even too shitty to pawn off on tourists.
Instead, it’s knock-off Malaysian, Chinese, or Indonesian beer, wine, or soft drinks.
“Tiger-brand energy drink. Now with 40% more real tiger.” Here? I believe them.
Vodka from everywhere not known for its vodka distilling prowess. Rural hotel shops sell nastily stale crisps, gummy gummies, filling-ripping ‘chewy’ taffy or caramel, and biscuits with a severely limited choice. Rural hotels do not have full electricity so beer is warm and often tossed on the table, waiting for tourists to arrive - as is the food. We were warned to be prepared for cold rice, cold fish, cold potato – and plenty of kimchi and tofu.
Back on the road again, we’re passing small burgs that are not on any of our maps; even the ones we traded for back in the hotel that are specially marked: “For Internal Use ONLY!”.
They were amazingly the same. Clean. Bright. Uncluttered. And attended by cadres of prim, uniform-clad, though non-military people. They were all doing a day’s work keeping everything neat and clean.
There were no cars, trucks, forklifts…only rickshaws and ox-carts. However every one of these ‘towns’ were identical, and exactly, as Ivan pointed out, ‘X’ number of minutes apart.
“Watch! Is so!”, Ivan said. We passed one of these villages, and exactly 3 minutes later, an exact copy. Three minutes later? Another one. 3 more minutes? Xerox-city.
“What the fuck?” Dax asked.
“Potemkin village.” Comrade Dr. Academician Ivan replied.
A Potemkin village is any construction, literal or figurative, whose sole purpose is to provide an external façade to a country which is faring poorly. It is for making people believe that the country is faring better, although statistics and data would suggest otherwise.
“Russia pioneered the process,” Ivan noted with no small amount of pride. “During Cold War with West, entire cities were built, moved, raised, and razed. Ever hear of Krasnoyarsk-25? Atomic Research City? Supposed place of weapons study and manufacture. Huge ‘accident’. Entire city demolished, total populace relocated supposedly, after massive nuclear calamity.”
“Is that true? Cliff asks.
“No. Not at all.” Ivan smiles, “Deliberate misinformation. At least for K-25. It was diversion for actual towns where accidents; nuclear, biological, or worse, had happened. West so concerned about K-25 because it was big, near big capital city of Krasnoyarsk and suitably located out in the taiga. Easy to spot, easy to watch. Kept Western satellites busy while real towns of I-33, U-10, and AR-13 out in the forest were quietly demolished and people relocated or mass buried after some horrible, horrible accidents...”
“You think it’s the same here?” I asked Ivan.
“No, Dr. Rock”, Ivan smiled, and helped himself to my freshly constructed, but untouched, Yorshch, “This is all fake and bluster. Make West think everything is all A-OK, is that right idiom?”
“Yep.” I reply, “Precisely.”
“Make West believe all is OK and green”, as he winks at me, “And bustling and growing. Cover up what is real case here. We all see it and we see right through. Shoddy even for Asians.”
We all had to snicker and smirk as the shiny suit squad, who sat up at the front of the bus, and were not supposed to be listening; reacted like every cell in their bodies were just hit with a drop of pure lemon juice.
“Comrade Dr. Academician. Decorum, please.” I snickered.
“Oh, fuck them!”, Ivan replied, “I am old Russian. They try and pull burlap over my eyes? St. Petersburg? Moscow? Krasnoyarsk.? I’ve been there, seen them. They think this display of tawdriness…Even goofy American and Canadian can see the fakes they are. Britisher? I’m not so sure…”
“Damn, Doctor., I said to Ivan, “You’re just making friends all over the planet today.”
We all knew it was in jest; but the shiny suit squad certainly had their feathers ruffled and either didn’t care or wanted us to know we were under their observation.
“Fuck them twice”, Ivan said, “Ask them for bottle opener. I’m too lazy to search for my field jackknife.”
I hand him my pocket Leatherman and he pries the top of another bottle of ‘Budveiser’ beer.
“They can’t even make fake the name correctly”, he smirks and drains the bottle.
‘Town’ after ‘town’ and even that parade gets uninteresting. We’re headed north and finally come to a crossroads.
The bus driver, who must be a regular paranoid-maniac because he actually stopped to look for oncoming traffic, which we have seen precisely none since leaving the capital city, made a hard right. We’re heading back and up into the hills, leaving the bright lights of the big city far behind.
After an hour or so of driving, we pull off to the left-hand side of the road.
“Rock, Ivan, Cliff…holy shit, look at this!” Dax was uncharacteristically excited.
It was an open field that leads to a series of low outcrops of polychromatic, obviously sedimentary rocks. Magentas, greens, purples, rust-reds, browns, blacks, olive greens…holy shit. A real sedimentary pile.
We filed out of the bus with our field gear. The shiny suit squad started in with a bullhorn.
“You will wait for tour guides!”
“You will listen to group leaders!”
“You will not stray from the designated paths set up…”
No one heard them as the group of 11 remaining Western geoscientists were already across the highway and hieing for the exposures like outcrop-seeking multiple-warhead re-entry vehicles.
“You must wait!” we heard from exasperated voices back at the bus. “You must stop!”
“You must piss off!” Cliff said, “This is what we’ve been waiting over two weeks to see!”
“They are very angry with us”, Myung-dae the young Korean geologist said. “I find that just too bad.”
“And you are?” I asked.
Myung-dae Soo, the young Korean geologist, introduced himself.
“Well”, I said, “Welcome aboard. I’m Dr. Rock.”
“They are very, very angry”, he repeats.
“So? Are you tagging along to give them internal reports?” I asked.
“No, Doctor”, he replied, “I too am a geologist. I want to get away from those assholes and see some real rocks.”
“Who are you with?” I ask, “What group?”
“I am 5th-year student at Pyongyang College. I am not officially here. We were told in class that you were coming. I decided to see if I could join you. This morning, I was standing by bus and they thought I was hotel worker or orderly. I was given cooler full of beer and told to find place for it on the bus. I did and after that, just stayed in the back. I am stowaway. I am ashamed, but I had to see for myself. But, I like Western field trips so far!”
“No shit? Well, then”, I said, “Double welcome aboard. None of this ‘I am ashamed’ shit. You’re a geologist, but you haven’t even worked through your first field-evening get-together with us. But this is no pleasure cruise. It’s real work, real geology, real serious science shit. You savvy?”
“Yes, sir, Doctor Rocknocker from Sultanate in the Middle East.” Myung-dae smiled.
“And you fucking stay close to me”, I smirked.
I fired a couple of BLAAATS! from my portable air horn.
“Field Meeting! Field Meeting! Assholes & Elbows!” I called aloud.
Everyone gathered within earshot.
“OK, guys, here’s the deal. We do not know how long we’ve got here. So, let’s split up into teams. Geophysicists, go do your structural thing. Stratigraphers? Field relations. Geologists? Let’s go talk to some ronery-rooking-rocks. No offense, Mr. Myung.”
Myung-dae was laughing up a storm. He got that reference. He later told us all around the campfire he thought ‘Team America’ was a “fucking hilarious movie.”
Oh, we are going to be a real bad influence on this poor kid.
The groups spontaneously broke up into 4 or 5 sub-groups. They headed for areas they thought were important and they were photographing, measuring, pounding on rocks, and arguing within minutes.
“No, you idiot! It’s continental. Look at those adhesion ripples.”
“The fuck you know. It’s only a little low-level eggbeater tectonics. Where the fuck would you get continental collision-size energy around here?”
“Oh, the fuck you say. It’s non-marine. Those are mud cracks. Look at the sandy aeolian infill, fer chrissake.”
Formal? Proper? Detached Doctors of Geology?
Not when you’re in the field. It all goes out the window when different opinions collide like subducting plates.
“The music of my people!” I said to Morse.
“I thought that was the ‘Safety Dance’?” he chided.
“We’re a big family. We can have more than one.” I snickered.
We’re wandering around the site, with individual purpose.
We are looking for or looking at items of interest.
We’re hacking at the outcrops.
We’re all looking at…things.
It’s hard to describe. Get a load of geologists or geology students out of the office, lab, or classroom; stick them out on a bare expanse of heavily weathered rock and it’s simply…numinous.
We’re rebuilding worlds here.
This rock says this.
This rock says that.
And you’re not fluent in that dialect. Here, let me interpret for you…
We’re at each other’s throats, in the academic-metaphorical sense. Tempers have been known to run hot. There has been the occasional bloody nose or rocks sailing down an outcrop without the obligate “HEADACHE!” call. Hammers and Marsh Picks have ended up swimming without the owner’s knowledge.
But once we’re back; settled in the hotel room, tavern, or around the campfire, we’re all a Band of Brothers again. It’s an odd thing to watch; as if you’re not of the clan, you’d need an interpreter. It defies all boundaries: political, sexual, educational, geographical, linguistic, social, et cetera.
We’re all geologists first. We share the common scientific bond of Geology.
That’s why Geology is the First Science.
Plus we tend to drink a serious fucking whole bloody awful lot.
We’ve all been on that ‘crawlin’ home puker’.
We’ve also been to the ends of the earth: the deepest depths, the highest heights, we deal with the greatest pressures, the hottest temperatures; we’ve been to the mountain, we’ve seen the elephant, and we’ve held a bear’s nose to dogshit.
We wear the scars attained in our travels like badges of honor.
We’re God-Damned Scientists.
Back off, man. Geologist comin’ through.
Anyways, I’m looking at the bedding-plane boundaries between the purple unit and the underlying olive-green unit. The upper unit it looks, to me, continental in origin. Fluvial, perhaps. The lower unit is much finer-grained. Marine mudstone, perhaps? But what age?
The cadged Korean Geological maps are worse than useless. They never would go down to the outcrop scale. Consulting them, they don’t even note these exposures in a field sense.
Myung-dae, who is working about 35 meters down-section from me calls out, “Doctors! Sirs! Look here! I’ve found something!”
We all wander over as he is hacking away at the dusty, eroded rock. He stands and dusts off his find.
It’s a very large, nearly 1-meter diameter, coiled fossil cephalopod.
I wander over for a closer look. Dax, Cliff, Morse, and Ivan do as well.
“Blimey! Will you look at that? Outstanding, Mr. Myung!” Cliff says.
“Well, that confirms it. This layer, at least, is marine. Look at that suture pattern”, I say, dusting off an unweathered bit.
“Look at the radius of coiling.”, Cliff joins in.
We’re slowly wresting information out of this silent witness.
“Ornamentation?”, Dr. Ivan asks. “Knobs, bosses, and excrutions?” Oh, yes.”
In unison, we declare: “Hyphoplites!”
Morse adds, “And therefore…these rocks are middle Cretaceous. Marine. Not bad…”
“Need to get some samples for geochemical analysis. Dig deep, gentlemen, we need unweathered samples for TOC (Total Organic Carbon) content.”, Dr. Erlen Meyer notes.
With that, we have a relative age of the rock, a good idea of its depositional environment, and therefore extent, ideas of field relationships, and an indication of some of its fauna.
Could it be source rock worthy?
Samples? Best get diggin’, Beaumont.
That unit is right smack in the middle of this pile of rocks. Dax and I will work up-section and Ivan and Cliff will work down-section. We’re going to see what lies above, what lies below, what trends we can discern, and develop an idea of what happened here some 100 million years ago.
This is what happens when you get geologists out in the field with the proper amounts of field gear, outcrops, and alcohol.
Overall, the deeper down-section, and therefore, earlier in geological time you go, the more marine the rocks are. Conversely, the higher you go in the column, i.e., up-section, into younger rocks, the more continental it appears.
We find fragments of marine fish fossils, sea-crocodile scutes and teeth, heaps of mosasaur coprolites, i.e., fossil shit piles, and other indications that the lower, older rocks are Lower Cretaceous ocean basin-fill.
But up higher; we find mud cracks, rain prints, land turtle shells, land-snails (Bellerophontid gastropods), and what may actually be a fossil feather. All indications of a more continental, i.e., fluvial (river), floodplain, lacustrine (lake), and paludal (swamp) deposition.
That’s my particular bailiwick.
I’m ‘elephant walking’ along the upper outcrops looking for fossils. You basically bend over at the waist and sweep from left to right as you take exaggerated step after step, scanning the ground looking for…well…it takes years, but once you see it, you never forget it.
“Fossil sign”.
A disjunct endemism. Something not in situ. Something out of place. A bit of a different, out of context color. Out of context texture. Out of context size. Out of context context.
Something that looks like it shouldn’t ought to be there.
I’m picking up 1 cm. square hunks of what look like an ordinary rock. I taste them. Well, I stick them to my tongue. If it liquefies and runs away, it’s ordinary mudstone, shale, or the like.
If it sticks…well, it might just be fossil bone.
“PTWTWOO!”
“Damn right, Rock”, Cliff says from behind me, “Fucking North Korea tastes terrible.”
“Still, it’s the best way I know to…” I paused.
“Got something?” Cliff asked.
“Look here.” I said, “Anthill. Big, nasty buggers. Look around the edges. Pieces of flat, cream-colored rock on this gaudy purple stuff. Tongue test? They stick like cockleburs. Let’s look upslope, see if there’s a drainage…”
There it was, a nice little drainage incised about 1.5 meters deep into the nearly horizontal rocks we were walking on.
“Any float?” I asked.
“Not yet,” Cliff said.
We followed the weak, little drainage that was cut into the outcrop, up another couple of meters.
There were very scrappy, very small, very scattered pieces of that same cream-colored rock. Some were ornamented with a scroll-work or some sort of striations. Most un-geological. More biological. We followed the trail, up here, around here, over there.
Cliff noticed it first, a soccer-ball sized lump of completely out-of-place crème-colored ‘rock’ working its way out by gradual erosion of the variegated pastels of the continental rocks upon which we were treading.
I got there first and began to clear the area with my Estwing.
“Careful. Careful”, Cliff admonished.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mind your Mincies. [Mince pies = eyes]”, as I’m swinging away at the reluctant, reticent, rocks.
The excavation grew, slowly. From the rounded dome, we could see small sutures that had developed…
Then condyles, fenestrae, then more ‘bone’. Then a jaw, teeth, vertebrae…
“HOLY DOUBLE-DAMN SHIT!” I tootled my air horn. We needed the group to see this.
It was a skull. A dinosaur skull. A small, non-avian dinosaur skull.
Everyone has crowded around and looked at the small quarry we had just built.
“Whatcha got, Rock? Cliff?” Joon asked.
“Fuck me, but I think we’ve got us a dinosaur skull,” I said.
Professor Doctor Academician Ivan walked over and cleared the area.
As Professor Emeritus, he had pole position priority.
“I agree.” is all he said.
I cleared the area and let others take a whack at opening up the quarry.
We may have been low on power tools, but we had a surfeit of opinions.
“OK,” I said, “Let’s look at the facts…”
  1. Age? Cretaceous. Probably lower to lower-middle Cretaceous.
  2. Continental deposits. That’s very fine sand we’re hacking away. Fluvial, without a doubt. Or, possibly aeolian; there’s no such thing as a geological certainty. Dunes? Ephemeral creeks? Low floodplain? Geo-talk… .
  3. Small size. Potentially a juvenile?
  4. Nope. Not a juvie. Sutures are closed, fused. This is, well was, an adult; perhaps a subadult, given its size.
  5. In situ? In place? Or washed in?
Hard to tell when all you’ve exposed is half the critter’s brain box.
“Look at that!” Myung-dae exclaimed, “Squamosal bones and the inner parietals…temporal fenestrae. It had a frill; a small one.”
“OK,”, I said, looking closely at the exposed scrappy remains, “Fucking-A Bubba. Nailed it.” I said, giving him the thumbs up.
“Ceratopsian. Look at those greens-grinder molars. There’s some small osteoderms on the skull; knobby old bastard. Early critter.” I continued.
Others looked around and confirmed my observations.
“Reminds me of Protoceratops from when I was back in Mongolia,” I said.
Dax chimed in with, “Looks something like Psittacosaurus from back in the Cretaceous Belly River of Canada.”
Drs. Ivan and Morse agree. “Most assuredly. It is definitely proto-ceratopsian. Young adult, as Dr. Rock notes by the cranial sutures. Do they have a record of proto-ceratopsians here?”
Myung-dae replies, “I have read reports of Korean proto-ceratopsian found in South Korea. Not long ago, 2019, it is called…ah… Auroraceratops. It is a genus of bipedal basal neo-ceratopsian dinosaur.”
“Bipedal?” I query. “Well, there’s a fine how do you do. All the proto-ceratopsians I’ve known were obligate quadrupeds.”
“Well”, Ivan, Dax, Cliff, and Morse agree, “That should give the shiny suit squad something to report. That’ll keep them the hell out of our hair for a while.”
We photograph each step as we excavate the critter. It’s more or less in situ, buried where it fell. Probably killed by a sand slip off a dune, or a river sandbar slip and burial. It’s not complete, but we do have the skull and a good portion of the post-cranial elements to about just before the pelvis. A good pectoral girdle, skull, jaw, frill, forelimbs, forefeet…easily half-a cute little herbivorous dinosaur. About the size of a smallish Highland Coo or large Great Dane.
We flag it with the team particulars, it’s GPS position, and carefully rebury the animal. We don’t have any of the equipment nor time to excavate it properly, but we can conserve it. Of course, we’ll be informing the proper authorities of our discovery.
I have an absolutely ancient Polaroid instant camera. Before re-internment, I take several pictures of our “Koreasaurus”, as we’ve dubbed the animal, with items for scale; like a hammer, cigar, and oddly enough, a photographic scale. Then I get a photo of the whole crew standing around, drinking warm beers from their individual day packs, smiling about the find ‘they‘ made.
We hear the melodious tootle of the bus’s horns. We make sure to pack out all our trash and wander back to our terrestrial transport.
“You were gone too long!” the chief shiny suited character goes all ballistic on me.
“Watch yourself, Herr Mac.”, I calmly said, “You’re going to burn your nose on my cigar.”
“You left without your handlers…err…guides!” he fumed.
“Hey, Scooter. Cool out. We’re geologists. We never get lost.” I said.
It sometimes just takes us longer to get back than it took us to leave…
“Your impertinence will be reported.” He smoldered.
“Report this, Mother Chuckler”, I observed and held out the pictures of our newly discovered Koreasaurus.
“Show those photos to your handlers,” I said in a mocking tone. “We found a brand new species of God-damned dinosaur for you geezers. It took us less than two hours. You can spin it that it’s a new, never-before-seen species of very specialized dinosaur found right here in beautiful Korea del Norte. Be quite the scientific coup, don’t you think? Trust us. We won’t say anything.”
He immediately shut up and went into conference with the rest of the shiny suit squad.
“Doctor”, one of the clan covert asked, “This is a new dinosaur?”
I had a thunderbolt of an idea.
“Oh! Yes, it is. I’d stake my reputation on it. You’ve had no concerted search here for the beasts and well, with the normalizing of relations between your country and the world, it allowed your specialists to perform real science. In fact, on the bus is the young North Korean geoscientist who made the discovery.” I said. “Give me a minute. I’ll go and get him. I think he was off taking a shi…ah, using the lavatory. Just give me a minute.”
I did have an idea. A wonderful idea. A wonderfully evil idea.
Back on the bus, I ordered the doors closed.
“Gentlemen! Ears and eyes! Please.” I said loudly.
Continuing…
“The shiny suits have their knickers all a-twist because we don’t want to listen to them; the assholes. Fuck that. I’ve got an idea. Let’s make our young acolyte here, Mr. Myung-dae Soo, a national hero. He would probably get his ass in a crack for sneaking on board the Western bus today the way he did. Well, double fuck that. Let’s all say he found the dinosaur. Let him take the glory for the homeland. No one else will ever need to know.” I said smiling.
“Fuck Yeah! You bet! Замечательное! Ihmeellisiä! Maravilhoso! Geweldig!”
Good to know we’re all on the same page. Geologists. You can always count on them…
“Mr. Myung-dae Soo? Front and center. Time to go and become ‘Hero of Best Korea’.” I smiled.
He was absolutely terrified.
“Doctor…I …don't…wait…no…” he stammered.
Cliff, Dax, Ivan, and I trotted him out to confront the shiny suit squad.
“Don’t worry, Myung. We’ve got your back. Trust us.” I said in a low conspiratorial tone.
The shiny suit squad turned as one and gave Mr. Myung the Stink Eye treatment.
“Here you go. The man of the hour. Mr. Myung-Dae Soo, young geologist and up and coming paleontologist.” I say loudly and with the utmost honor.
They look at him and the Korean erupts in rapid-fire staccato bursts.
Cliff just wanders in and interjects, “Yes. Righto. Top form. Found the float. Tracked down that dino like he was on safari. Highest marks. Good man!”
Dax adds more fuel to the fire. “Like he knew where to go, knew where to look. He’s a natural.”
Dr. Academician Ivan blustered forth: “Excellent scholar. Excellent field man. Banner geologist.”
I couldn’t have added more. The shiny suit squad was gobsmacked.
I asked Myung-dae what they were saying.
“They were talking about reprisals. Reporting to authorities. Then, they stopped. You have them completely confounded.” He said.
“How so?” I asked, quietly.
“Between an international incident where we don’t listen to our handlers and this potential important scientific discovery.” Mr. Myung-dae reported, trying hard to parse the evolving situation.
“Yes”, I added to Ivan’s bluster.
To the shiny suits: “I’ve worked as visiting Dinosaurian Vertebrate Paleontology Curator at all the major American museums. This is a find quite unlike anything known. It is a watershed discovery. It will help unravel the evolution and distribution of the clan Dinosauria for the whole Korean Peninsula. Perhaps, even with international impact on the recent finds in China.”
I laid it on with a trowel.
I hit all the buzzwords.
“Yes. Yes, perhaps.”, the head shiny-suiter said. “I will report this bit of very good news to the proper authorities. Myung-dae, with us. We require more information.”
“Ah, we’d prefer him to ride in back with us if you don’t mind. Scientific courtesy, old man. He needs to be classically de-interviewed after such a find.” I insisted, making certain I stand as tall, wide, and menacing as possible while smiling like a damned Cheshire cat, one smoking a very large cigar.
“Very well. We are not far from our evening stop. We can talk later.” He agreed.
We all moseyed, laughing silently, back to the bus; literally supporting our young hero Mr. Myung-dae as he seemed to have gone all wobbly of late.
Myung-dae was ashen-white. He looked like he had just given birth to a basketball. He was visibly shaking.
We get on the bus and I whip up a stout Yorshch for the young hero of the hour.
“Here! This is for you. If you’re going to be a world-class geologist, you’d damn sure better start acting like one.” I smile broadly.
There were hoots, cheers, and cat-calls.
Beers were popped, bottles uncorked; cigars, cigarettes, and pipes lit.
“Damn Skippy!” some anonymous reveler added.
Myung-dae slurped a good half the drink. I offered him a cigar. He stopped shaking enough to accept the novel offer.
Remember “crawlin’ home puker”? He’s taken his first step into a larger world.
OK, just to recap. Here are the dramatis personae left on the bus…
Bus driver (Kim) and his relief (Won).
My team and I. That’s 11 Western geoscientists: Morse, Cliff, Volna, Ack, Viv, Graco, Erlen, Dr. Academician Ivan, Joon, Dax, and myself.
Then there are our guides: Yuk, No, Man, and Kong.
Our stowaway hero geologist-in-training: Myung-dae Soo, aka, “Mung”.
And the four members of the shiny suit clan: Pak, Mak, Tak, and Jak. At least, that’s the names we used when we addressed them.
The bus was rumbling down the deserted highway. We were headed more or less due east, passing the occasional Potemkin Village. They knew we cracked their code long ago, so they didn’t bother with darkening the windows any longer.
We are passing a series of highway road cut outcrops. We’re only going approximately 35 or 40 miles per hour. Suddenly, Morse jumps out of his seat and runs up to the driver.
“STOP! STOP! Back up! We almost missed it!” he barks in heavily Russian inflected English.
The driver, shaken to the core, just slams on the brakes. The bus grinds to a stop. Good thing there’s no traffic out here.
Or anywhere else, for that matter.
Jak of the suit clan jumps up and asks “What is the problem?”
“How could you miss that?” Morse shouts. “Huge fault. Mineralization. I saw that from a glimpse. We must return to investigate.”
“Is not possible. We have appointment at the hotel.” Jak replies.
“Fuck that!”, Morse shouts. I guess he’s just really into faults…
I wander up and try to defuse the situation.
“OK, guys, cool out. Let’s be reasonable. Do it our way. Go back to that road cut. We spend a half-hour there then we go on to the hotel. The hotel will still be there when we arrive, won’t it? Even if we’re a bit late?” I ask.
Jak looks to Pak, who converses with Mak and Tak. They know they’re outgunned.
The driver shifts the bus into reverse and we back down the luckily deserted highway over a mile to the outcrop in question.
We had to admit, it was a mother beautiful normal fault. In perfect, textbook cross-section.
Morse and Joon were on it like white on rice; given the mineralization along the fault plane. All sorts of implications for the thermal and geological history of the area. But with just one exposure like this, more or less just a real interesting geo-oddity.
We spent precisely 30 minutes at the exposure, and when our handlers requested we re-board and head to the motel, we complied like nice, normal sort of folks.
I believe the appropriate maxim here is: “Lull them into a false sense of security…”
Once more down the road we travel. Beers popped, bottles uncorked; you know, the usual.
Forty-five minutes later, we pull into, I kid you not, a replica US of A 1950s Motor-Inn.
“Mr. Myung”, I ask, “What the hell is this?”
To be continued…

2020.04.25 14:51 howunexpectedlyso Trying to unearth the original owner of a seventy-year-old book

Hello, everyone!

A copy of the novel Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter has recently come into my possession (a gift from an old teacher), and I was surprised and excited when I saw that the last reprint copyright was dated 1950. Realizing this, I flipped back two pages to re-examine something I'd passed over at first: a small, pasted-in piece of wide-ruled paper. The blue of the lines is very faded, it takes up about half the page it is pasted on, and someone wrote in a neat print:
8: 7: 53:
in the top right corner, one line down. I believe this is the date: the eighth of July, 1953. The reason I believe this is the date, rather than August seventh, 1953, is because the book was published in Britain (see photo album linked below) and thus the owner would have used the day-month-year format rather than the American way of month-day-year.
Right below, centered on the paper, in the same handwriting, it says (as far as I can tell, a few letters may be off):
Gary Ramos
Southside
Groby Rd
Bowdon
Cheshire
I have done a little snooping already and am pretty certain I found the right place on Google maps (link below). All other attempts I've made at locating the previous ownes of a residence on Groby Road (made more difficult as there is no house number written) have failed. Thus, I have turned to Reddit to aid me in my quest.
Here is the link to pictures of the book, saved in Google Photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/YyGkUGDuqCMqvbKm9Descriptions are added to each photo. Please feel free to comment on the photos in the album with observations/corrections/speculations/etc.
Here is the link to the Google Maps location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Groby+Rd,+Bowdon,+Altrincham,+UK/@53.3850922,-2.3640529,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x487baca0e2b4d27f:0x63f29f21474c303!8m2!3d53.3849098!4d-2.362465
The style, tidiness, and cursive-like handwriting of the pasted-in note have led me to believe its unknown writer would have been, at youngest, nine or ten, and at oldest, probably somewhere in their twenties. Pollyanna was written for older children and so I've assumed this copy would likely have been read by a young teenager.

The purpose of my search is to find the person who owned this book in 1953. Perhaps they are still alive. Maybe this was a treasured childhood novel. This person may have passed away in the last seventy years.

Still, I think it is a worthy pursuit to try and find them.

(I hope this is the right subreddit to post this in; if not, please let me know and I will move it to where you recommend)
Edit: u/ExcitingLingonberry has made the excellent point that the name may be Gay instead of Gary

2020.04.21 21:03 system_player Recommended Emoji Analysis - 34.1.1

Here's some of the insights obtained from the config data on how the app determines if an emoji is good for a certain mission. For each emoji, the config data may indicate if the emoji is good for a certain mission type (not all do). It makes this determination for either all levels or specific levels (and in a few cases, the specific levels amounts to all for some reason). The different categories are
You'll notice, this doesn't cover color, boy/girl, specific emojis, characters groups, or any other type of categorization you can think of. Either the app uses other means to include them or (as is known in some cases), they are not included in the recommended list.
One thing I'll note (in the hopes some dev will see it), Witch Minnie is tagged as "Coin" in the config data whereas ever other coin earner is tagged as "Coins". Doesn't make a difference to me, but I suspect this just means Witch Minnie will never be recommended as a coin earner.
Below are the specific mission types for each emoji and then the emojis within each category.

2020.04.18 20:31 jillyapple1 v. 34.0.0-Box Buying Strategy for New Players

v. 34.0.0-Box Buying Strategy for New Players
Previous Post.
UPDATED AS OF V.35. A version 36 update is posted here.
It is updated as of version 35. I'm not making a whole new post, because Hamm is the only new non-exclusive, and he doesn’t change anything meaningfully (he’s boy, animal, big-eared, but so is Mickey, so players have those tags covered. He’s also four-legged and Toy Story, but gold is still far behind on Silver and Series One in those categories, respectively).
I created three visual aids on which I base my advice. Data Chart, Data Table 1 and Data Table 2. PLEASE let me know if you find any errors in the data sets or this post.
The most recent list of tags is here, starting with a list of tags for each emoji, and then a list of emoji for each tag.
My advice is, focus first on the FRANCHISES. (This uses mostly the top half of the Data Chart, if you want to follow along). Steps 2 and 3 are interchangeable. At mission level 18, you can start getting certain tags from MISSION GROUP 3, including DISNEY PRINCESS, GREEN, and OUTER SPACE tags. If you already have Outer Space, you may wish to do step 3, then step 2.
  1. Rotate SILVER, SERIES THREE, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.
    2. INSIDE OUT
    3. JUNGLE BOOK
  2. Rotate SILVER, SERIES ONE, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. ALICE IN WONDERLAND
    2. CINDERELLA
    3. FINDING NEMO/DORY
    4. MUPPETS
    5. TOY STORY
    6. ZOOTOPIA
    7. OUTER SPACE (a MISSION GROUP 3 tag):
      1. SERIES ONE: Alien, Buzz Lightyear, Stich, WALL-E
      2. GOLD: Calhoun, Gonzo
  3. Rotate SILVER, SERIES TWO, and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. ALADDIN
    2. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    3. MOANA
    4. MULAN
    5. TANGLED
    6. DISNEY PRINCESS:
      1. SILVER: Ariel
      2. SERIES TWO: Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Rapunzel
      3. GOLD: Merida, Pocahontas, Princess Atta, Snow White, Tiana
    7. GREEN:
      1. SILVER: Goofy, Jiminy Cricket, Mike
      2. SERIES TWO: Hatbox Ghost, Pascal, Peter Pan
      3. GOLD: Crush, Disgust, Fauna, Flit, Gus, Hugo, Louis, Mad Hatter
  4. Rotate SILVER and GOLD until you have these tags covered:
    1. COCO
    2. HERCULES
    3. INCREDIBLES
    4. LION KING
    5. LITTLE MERMAID
    6. NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    7. POCAHONTAS
    8. PRINCESS AND THE FROG
    9. RESCUE RANGERS
    10. SNOW WHITE
    11. UP
    12. WINNIE-THE-POOH
    13. WRECK-IT-RALPH
  5. If you haven't gotten a FROZEN tag yet, buy SERIES TWO until you do. SERIES TWO has slightly better odds than SERIES ONE, and also has OLAF. At some point you'll want OLAF at level 2, but don't worry about it right now. If you get SVEN instead of OLAF, take it and move on.
  6. Then take a look at what tags you have left to get, and use the bottom half of the Data Chart to plan your strategy. An explanation of how to use the chart is below. The remaining MISSION GROUP 3 tags are:
    1. BLUE:
      1. (17%) GOLD: Bruce, Destiny, Flik, Gadget, Madame Leota, Monterey Jack, Pegasus, Sadness, The Bride, The Prince, Yesss
      2. (17%) SILVER: Donald Duck, Dumbo, Eeyore, Jiminy Cricket, Sulley
      3. (16%) SERIES ONE: Dory, Genie, Stitch
      4. (11%) SERIES TWO: Abominable Snowman, Hatbox Ghost
      5. (10%) SERIES THREE: Joy, Sadness (why isn’t EVE considered blue?)
    2. SCARY:
      1. (17%) SERIES TWO: Abominable Snowman, Beast, Hatbox Ghost
      2. (14%) SERIES THREE: Barbossa, Davy Jones, Kaa
      3. (9%) GOLD: Bruce, Jack Skellington, Louis, Madame Leota, Mary Sanderson, Sally, Sarah Sanderson, The Bride
      4. (7%) SILVER: Randall, Sulley
    3. YELLOW:
      1. (21%) SERIES ONE: Alice, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, WALL-E
      2. (20%) SILVER: Flounder, Pluto, Roz, Simba, Tigger, Winnie-the-Pooh
      3. (19%) SERIES THREE: Cruz Ramirez, Joy, Launchpad McQuack, Princess Aurora
      4. (16%) GOLD: Arthur, Bo Peep, Calhoun, Dash, Finnick, Flora, Gonzo(why?), Iago, Kronk, Kuzco, Lady Kluck, Mr. Incredible, Russell, Sarah Sanderson
      5. (11%) SERIES TWO: Lumiere, Rapunzel
  7. The remaining relevant tags are:
    1. BEARDED
    2. CAT/DOG (best odds in SILVER)
    3. DISNEY PRINCE (best odds in SERIES TWO)
    4. EYEWEAR
      1. SERIES ONE: White Rabbit
      2. SERIES THREE: Darkwing Duck, Sadness, Scrooge McDuck
      3. GOLD: Carl, Dash, Elastigirl, Gizmoduck, Mr. Incredible, Violet, Yesss
      4. SILVER: Roz
    5. FLYING
I think he also unlocks items during item events, but forgot to try him out since I just used the lucky emoji, instead.
  4. GOLD has 39 out of 93 emoji (not including exclusives) (42%) that lead to group collection prizes:
  • Emoji prizes:
  1. BABY DORY: Bruce, Crush
  2. BING-BONG: Anger, Disgust, Fear
  3. CATERPILLAR: Mad Hatter
  4. FROZONE: Dash, Elastigirl, Jack-Jack (exclusive), Mr. Incredible, Violet
  5. GRAMMA TALA: Hei Hei
  6. KITTY YZMA: Kronk, Kuzco, Pacha
    1. If you max these, you will still need 3 duplicates of Yzma (villain) to unlock Kitty Yzma (Rainbow)
    2. Kitty Yzma may be available in a diamond box without having to go through maxing most of the group
  7. MARSHMALLOW: Kristoff
  8. RAJAH: Abu
  • Non-emoji prizes:
  1. Rainbow Bolt: Flora, Fauna, Merryweather (exclusive)
    1. You will also need Fairy Godmother (level 200 prize) and Blue Fairy (level 300 prize) for Fairies Group
  2. Rainbow Box: Flynn Rider, Maximus
    1. You will also need Tiara Rapunzel (Rainbow) and Mother Gothel (Villain) to attain this prize
  3. Villain Box (Cinderella Villains Group): Anastasia, Drizella
    1. You will also need Lady Tremaine (Villain) and Lucifer (Villain) to attain this prize.
  4. Villain Box (Mulan Group): Cri-Kee
    1. You will also need Ping (Rainbow) and Shan Yu (Villain) to attain this prize
  5. Villain Box (Toy Story Group): Bullseye, Jessie, Hamm
    1. You will also need Zurg (Villain) to attain this prize
  6. Villain Box (Wreck-it Ralph Group): Calhoun, Fix-It Felix, Jr., Ralph, Vanellope (exclusive)
Did I miss anything? Would anything else be helpful? Let me know in the comments below! :D
